Community Overview

Brandywine Living at The Sycamore is part of the Brandywine by Retirement Unlimited, Inc. The community is situated just minutes from the historic town of Red Bank, providing residents with easy access to shopping, dining, and cultural attractions. The Sycamore is also conveniently located near medical facilities, pharmacies, and places of worship, ensuring that residents have everything they need within reach.

Community Details

I visited the community in March 2025, here are some of the notes that I took.

  • There are currently 85 residents. There are a total of 106 beds in the community. There are 67 current residents in Assisted Living and 18 residents in Memory Care
  • Both husband & wife can live in memory care even if only one needs that level of care but must be approved by the community to make sure this arrangement is not a negative impact on the non-memory care resident.
  • A king or queen-sized bed will not fit in the bedroom. If a larger bed is needed, convert the living room into the bedroom and the bedroom into the den/living room.
  • There is a community generator.
  • Residents need to bring their own furniture.
  • The community is 25 years old.
  • The refrigerator and microwave are supplied in the room.
  • There are many long-term staff in the community.
  • They currently have 6 married couples in the community. They have several independent residents who have their own cars and don’t utilize any of the care levels.
  • Brandywine has 34 communities.
  • Renovations are being done. Rooms have been completed, and they are now working on the common areas. It should take about 1 year to complete.
  • 2 elevators.

Care Services

The Sycamore provides a range of care options, including Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Respite Care. Licensed nurses are on-site 24/7, offering medication administration, health monitoring, and coordination with healthcare providers.

Here are some notes I took during a March 2025 tour:

  • LPNs are there 24/7. Two RNs work from 9-5 and are on call the rest of the time.
  • Doctors are brought into the community that residents can utilize.
  • Assessments can be done via zoom.
  • Residents have a designated care manager.
  • 30-day re-assessment and then assessments are done every 6 months.
  • Wellness office.

Lifestyle & Amenities

Residents can enjoy a variety of activities through the “Escapades…for Life!” program, which includes movie nights, fitness classes, art workshops, and more. The community boasts amenities such as a movie theater, game room, library, fitness center, spa, and outdoor spaces with walking trails and a fire pit. Dining is a highlight, with an All-Day Dining program offering gourmet meals prepared by an executive chef. The community also provides scheduled transportation for medical appointments and outings. 

Here are some notes I took during my March 2025 visit:

  • The Pub is stocked with snacks & drinks for residents to enjoy.
  • Salon is open 3 days per week.
  • Wide array of activities & trips including Atlantic City (quarterly), lunch biweekly and plays in Red Bank.
  • Transportation is provided to local doctor appointments within 10 miles.
  • Private dining room that can be reserved.
  • Physical therapy room on the third floor.
  • Laundry (separate for each resident) is done 2 times per week, bedding done once a week. Housekeeping once a week.
  • Veterans Club.
  • Butlers Service is an extra $1,000 per month each. Have a private dining room.
  • Movies are at 1:30 & 6:30pm. Popcorn included.
  • Poker room on the second floor.
  • Easch resident has their own mailbox.
  • Lower level has a large bingo room.
  • Garden Club
  • Breakfast is open seating. 2 seatings for lunch & dinner.

Financial

Here are some notes I took during my March 2025 visit:

  • They may be able to approve a guarantee for a Medicaid bed. They will work with a resident 6 months before if money is running out. Nearby communities include Wall, Howell, Brick, and Englishtown.
  • 1 bedroom is $8,200 plus $2,500 for second resident. 2 bedroom is $9,800 plus $2,500 for second resident.
  • There are 5 care levels. Medication management is $650/month.
  • This is a month-to-month community.
  • $5,000 Community fee that is not refundable.
  • Land line, basic cable and common wi-fi are included.
  • Rooms can be held for 2 weeks.

In Conclusion

Brandywine Living at The Sycamore has a very warm and friendly atmosphere where residents can feel at home.
